Practical Training for Church Security

When someone steps up to protect their church family, they shouldn't have to carry that weight alone. That's why every member of your Church Safety Team is enrolled in USCCA membership as part of FSD's training program.

Here's why that matters:

One USCCA member defended himself against an attacker, and in the chaos, also struck the attacker's father, whom he mistook for a second assailant. He was charged with first-degree murder. Almost three years later, a jury acquitted him of every charge. That should have been the end of it. Instead, the attacker's father turned around and sued him personally for wrongful death. The case was settled confidentially, with the member protected from paying any expenses related to the criminal case, civil case, or settlement.

This kind of thing happens more than people realize. Attorneys who work with USCCA members describe cases where a member is fully acquitted, only to be sued afterward by the attacker's family, with one settlement alone costing close to $500,000, all of it covered by the membership. Without that coverage, a man who did everything right would have faced financial ruin anyway.

Courts have also made clear that being fully justified in a self-defense case does not automatically protect you from civil liability, especially if a bystander or third party is affected. Being right under the law does not mean the fight is over. Justified does not mean free. These are the moments that bankrupt families who did everything correctly.
